The standard lens is excellent, but the zoom one (55-210) is a little weak (the lack of image stabilization may be to blame).
It struggles a bit in shallow lights.
Still, for the price, it’s an excellent camera. And go for this one rather than one of the newer models – they are 50%-100% more expensive and add little other than quiet modes (this camera is not noisy in the first place).
There are two minor issues the battery won’t last as long as an S.L.R. camera, and the S.D. memory card is challenging to remove. I recommend a small pair of tweezers for this job. Lastly, I’ll be taking this Sony camera out with me a lot more than my bulky but perfect S.L.R. camera.
Sony Alpha 6000 System Camera
The best Sony I.L.C. yet. I wonder why people spend so much on the A7x cameras and the substantial additional investment required for new lenses when this humble APS-C camera does so very well. Yes, I understand the argument of F.F. vs. APS-C, but the law of diminishing returns applies, I think. Image quality is terrific, but with one important caveat; the standard 16-50mm kit lens is awful, just awful. Do what I did, buy the body only, and get the 35mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.8 lenses. Both are great; the 50mm is optically better, producing sharper images than the 35mm. They told me that the 10-18mm f/4 wide-angle zoom is good, too (but at a high price). And that’s the rub with Sony’s APS-C mirrorless cameras: the lens choice is minimal. Perhaps there’s some point to the A7x series after all if you’ve got bottomless pockets.
