Style Name: Alpha 7 IV with SEL2870

Eye AF should call eyelash focus as it constantly front focuses do that Iris is never sharp, but eyelashes are. A firmware update claimed to fix it, but while slightly improved, it’s still not fixed. I wish I’d got the A7iii or A7riii.

While the A7IV is an excellent camera, do not turn a blind eye to the A7III if you have a lower budget. The A7III is a great performing camera, despite it being a 4-year-old model (2018); it’s just the A7IV is more “up-to-date” and has some differences; the most noticeable being:

 • More resolution & dynamic range with its 33MP sensor (A7III is 24MP).

 • Two UHS-II SD slots, with Slot 1 also capable with ‘CFexpress Type A’ cards.

 • Multi-angle LCD screen (I prefer the old tilt screen, but most will prefer the multi-angle).

 • Shutter mode covers the sensor when turned off, helping to prevent dust from getting on the lens when changing the lens.

 • Dedicated photo and video selector with more customizable options.

 • Larger and better feeling grip.

 • Updated menu/UI.

 • Improved video quality.

 • Dedicated Bird EYE-AF.

 • Able to use the camera as a webcam via USB.

Sony now has a vast range of lenses to choose from, so much that it’s too long to list, so I’m just going to list some that I use regularly:

 • SEL1635Z: Great for getting wider angle shots, suitable for landscapes.

 • SEL2470GM: A decent range of 24mm to 70mm with a consistent f/2.8 aperture.

 • SEL85F14GM: A sharp portrait lens.

 • SEL90M28G: A macro lens that is also great for portraiture.

This camera is generally easy to use; it just requires time to get used to where everything is. Sony had opted to use a whole new menu system from the A7III, so even I had to get used to the new layout. I feel like it’s well-organized; once you’ve been through it a couple of times, it’s easy to locate what you want.
