Canon EOS R, is after more image stabilisation for quick action shots. It is a massive gain over the EF 24-70mm with no IS, actually the glass of the 24-70 is exceptionally sharp. However, even only 1 or 2 stops gain is helpful for fast photography and the extra lenght up to 105mmm also great for portraits. Reduced flange distance works also very well with DPR for additional sharpness.
A superb lens for all round work with really good image stabilisation that has allowed me to even hand hold low light shots exposure wise up to 2 seconds long. Very sharp at all apertures. It loses a very minor point for portrait photography, whilst producing good images F4 is not really enough to give the magical bokeh of a F1.4 – 2.8 RF lens but to be fair this was aimed at being a good jack of all trades lens not a specific portrait lens.
This is a quality lens, fast focus sharp images and very quite in operation. Only downside is the price, at over a £1000 it’s not cheap but for this glass i would buy it again without a second thought.
This is honestly the best general purpose 24-105 zoom lens on any camera. It’s superior to the EF equivalent and is the main lens I use for almost everything on my EOS R. It’s not light but it is competitively priced and superior build and image quality to the Sony equivalent. The images are tack sharp with great image stabilisation and blazingly fast autofocus. It’s also silent so great for video. I use mine foe everything from landscapes to portraits but be warned it’s not light and is solidly constructed with weather sealing. Comes with lens hood and pouch.
