It is a standard pro camera; Pentax has wholly reworked the focus system and is now one of the best for a DSLR. Pentax builds quality, top-notch complete water, dust seals, and feels right when you pick it up.
This camera is a severe kit; while quite expensive, it is worth it. It’s a joy to use a nicely weighted and smooth shutter release.
I’ve had a lot of Pentax bodies in the past. I’ve never owned a premium Pentax DSLR, although I have the old film MZ-S and Z1-P. I bought this to supersede my K-70. Life’s too short, so I thought, what the hell. I love my K-70 and will keep it as my number 2. It has a place – mainly astrophotography. It, on the other hand, is on a whole different level. Yes, it’s more expensive, but I can see why.
Shutter speed is phenomenal. The AF system is chronic. Sharp and fast and damned accurate. The Viewfinder is just superb. More surprising is how you can customize this camera for certain shots. As APS-C cameras go, this is the nuts. I shoot mainly via Viewfinder. I know loads of cameras are now Mirrorless. But I have so much glass for an old camera I can work with; it’s a no-brainer. It is one fun camera. Much more fun than your latest PlayStation or Xbox. Do you love photography? Buy this. If you’re an existing Pentaxian with a pile of glass, you won’t be disappointed. 10/10.
