This lens produces a good quality photograph. The zoom range is ideal as a fantastic all-purpose lens, and on my a7iii, I’ve found that I can use it in relatively dark conditions with autofocus being acceptable. in bright conditions a.f. (oss) works like a dream, including auto eye focus.
It’s slightly heavy, but it does have a steady optical shot and is built sturdily (don’t bump or drop any lens !!!). It’s rarely off my camera now. Recommended.
I’ve used this lens for two months, and it hasn’t parted company with my A7RII. I was ready to be underwhelmed as you get conflicting opinions always, and it seems quality control varies even on expensive lenses.
Well, I can report my copy is sharp across the frame at all focal lengths, with loads of detail on my 42 MP full-frame camera. Glad I went for this versatile option; not much to choose from in quality with primes, even compared to my Sony/Zeiss 55mm F1.8 at f8. For my walkabout/landscape stills, using f4 is perfectly fast enough.
Every shoot I brought this lens along, too, ended up being the most frustrating to edit. I originally wrote it off as a user error that such a substantial proportion of my photos were out of focus, but this never happened with my other two lenses. After my recent shoot, I realized that this lens underperforms far too often to be worth £1000. I sent it back for a refund and got the 2470 G master instead. I’ve lost a bit of range, but my God is everything so sharp and in FOCUS.
