About this item

Quality at heart:

The S5 has a 24MP Full-Frame sensor capable of delivering quality stills and video to satisfy the most demanding creatives. Able to shoot up to 7fps in stills and produce 4K video with an ISO range expandable from 50 to 204,800 (extended), the Dual Native ISO allows you to have cleaner images across a broader range of shooting conditions for both stills and video in almost any situation

The S5 Firmware v2.3 enables 5.9K/4K/Anamorphic 3.5K 12-bit RAW video over HDMI, recorded as Apple Pores RAW to an Atomos Ninja V. or as Blackmagic RAW to Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR, plus video functions like S.S./Gain operation and Vector scope displays.

Focusing on what matters – The ability to lock onto a face when shooting video and stills is critical. We have improved the power of the camera to identify and lock onto a face, head, or body more accurately even when the subject is much smaller in the frame. The updated Auto-Focus system in the LUMIX S5 offers all the inherent benefits of a contrast-based A.F. system with improving tracking performance; the LUMIX S5 takes the performance of a contrast-based A.F. system to the next level in terms of performance and reliability.

A stable platform for stills and video:

Image Stabilisation is a requirement for content creators on the run, and LUMIX is well known for in-body stabilization. When combining the In-body and lens stabilization, the Dual I.S. II system on the S5 gives you up to 6.5stops of benefit, resulting in even better results and greater confidence that you will get the shot you need.

I have been researching Panasonic, overly expensive Sony, Nikon, and Canon; first, I wanted to get Canon R6 which turned out it overheats, and after overheating, it’s unfunctional; Lumix S5 does not overheat. Sony is good but too expensive; if you are thinking of getting an A73, please don’t, that camera doesn’t have 10 bit and is an old camera. The color science is not the same as Panasonic’s best color science; Autofocus in APS-C is perfect, in the full-frame model is almost perfect. Firmware 2.1 made the A.F. very good. You can record 6K with external recording with this camera.  I believe the next firmware update will make the A.F. even better. I love this camera. Lumix S1H is an approved camera by Netflix for filmmaking, and this Lumix S5 is smaller but better than S1H.

For a long time, I dreamt about and had my eye on the Sony A7iii. When I eventually saved enough money to afford one, I was back on YouTube researching my new perspective camera. Then I saw a video comparing the Lumix S5 with the Sony a7iii camera. Many hours later, I decided to ditch the Sony purchase in favor of the Panasonic. I cannot make a comparative assessment between the two cameras as I have never experienced Sony. Until now, my primary camera was a Canon D200. I was thrilled with it; It’s still a good camera, but the Lumix S5 is an entirely different beast and, therefore, cannot be compared to the Canon. I’m not a still photographer. I purchased this camera to make content videos and short films. The fact I can do all this in 4k is fantastic.
