I was looking forward to receiving this lens as I had heard good things about it. But wow, it surpassed my expectations immediately.
The color rendition and sharpness of the images are easily some of the highest qualities I have seen produced with my camera.
It is not a small lens, but it is not too big either, or although it has a noticeable weight, you can carry it for long periods without tiring your arms. Since receiving the lens, I have spent a few days with this on my camera (during testing). I’m pretty sure it has jumped to being my favorite lens, which is already the default lens I have on my camera.
The minimum focusing distance is short enough for some stunning detail shots to get close to flowers. It auto focuses incredibly quickly and is accurate. When turning the camera on, the focus motors on my lens make a brief ‘clunk’ sound as the motors activate which is a little disconcerting, but I guess they are just moving into position, and it stops after a couple of seconds. After that, it is hushed.
I used this lens to take some photos. Beyond this, I have also taken some portraits, which have come out beautifully (but I lack the permission to include them here).
Even when opened fully to f1.4, the images are clean and sharp with excellent contrast and color.
The lens comes with a hood and a pouch to put the lens in when not on your camera. This pouch can be attached to a belt and comes with a shoulder strap if you prefer to carry it that way. It is a far more practical pouch than I have received with previous lenses.
I can’t recommend this lens enough if you are considering it.
I didn’t think anything could drag me away from the 24mm f1.4 GM, but the 35mm f1.4 GM has! I would say this is the best lens I have ever used in 12 years of working as a full-time photographer. Super sharp, instant autofocus, and the bokeh is out of this world. I work full-time as a wedding and events photographer, and this lens adds a little magic to my work; in fact, I refer to it as the magic lens; it’s just that good. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lens to anyone looking for the best in class.
