Incorporating one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass optical element, one anomalous glass optical element, and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) aspherical glass visual elements effectively reduce chromatic aberration to a minimum over the entire zoom range. Coupled with high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating, * which reduces the average reflectance in the visible ray spectrum to less than 50% of conventional multi-layer coatings, it effectively minimizes flare and ghost images in demanding lighting conditions such as backlighting.

After buying a new KP, I wanted to upgrade from the kit lens that came with my K30. This lens is heavier than the 18/55 kit lens, but the image quality is noticeably better, and the max aperture is more comprehensive. It is not cheap, and it is a heavy lump on the front of the camera, which is relatively light, but if you are ok with that trade-off, then I can recommend it. The wider aperture and the better high ISO the KP have over the K30 make for more accessible low-light work. Very nice lens if you can afford it.
I bought this lens to go with my Pentax K3 iii. I have used Pentax equipment for over 40 years and had previously owned the original SDM version of this lens – now not working due to autofocus failure and zoom mechanism failure (it was 15 years old!). The new PLM version is a large lens both dimensionally and in weight but is a step up in build quality, autofocus speed, and image quality. In short, it is the perfect lens, assuming the size and weight are not an issue.
